Full-time travelers or part-time travelers:
We are part time travellers, working around school holidays and weekends away – any opportunity we get to take off!
Do you always take your kids along on your travels?
Yes, always. We travelled lots before we had kids and plan to travel lots when they fly the nest but for now we are very focussed on our family trips and love sharing the fun and adventure with them.
Why do you travel with your kids?
For lots of reasons. Primarily I believe travel is great for kids, to see the world, to realise that people are the same no matter where you are but also that others may not live in the same way we do. I can remember a trip to Russia when we were a little apprehensive about how friendly it would be and it couldn’t have been more so. Watching my seven year old son running around Gorky Park in Moscow with a Russian boy of the same age, neither could speak the others language but they had so much fun that day – it was wonderful to see.
Best tip(s) to travel with children:
Don’t worry, just travel! Go for it and it will become easier the more you do (and take a pack of paper, box of crayons and some play doh with you).
Favourite destination for kids:
Oh it’s so hard to pick a favourite, I have so many but if I had to pick just one it would have to be Italy. The people are so friendly – we had one old lady jump in front of our stroller to squeeze our son’s cheeks on one trip! Italy has perfect kids food – pizza and pasta, there are historic sights for the adults and beaches and play parks for the kids and the best gelato in the world.
Place you wouldn’t take your kids to:
We visited North Korea before we had kids and had an amazing trip there but right now I wouldn’t take them…and more because it’s about going to so many monuments and not so many playgrounds! Although I think they would love the Mass Games which is a wonderful spectacle.
