On Friday the 18th we took another daytrip with the guys from Sahara Desert Kingdom, this time to get some fresh air at Ouzoud Falls.
The Ouzoud Falls are located about 150 km from Marrakech in the Middle Atlas.
We had the privilege of having a private jeep with driver once again, which gave us the opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery along the way.
When we arrived at the village of Ouzoud, our private guide took us through a market to a small walk that leads to the first viewpoint over the waterfalls. They are about 110m high and best to be seen in springtime, when the melting water of the mountains makes them more abundant.
We were then taken on a walk down to the foot of the falls, providing more spectacular views on them each time around. The walk is fairly easy for adults, but we did have to carry Febe for the most of it. The path is not accessible to any kind of stroller – so take that in account if you are visiting with a young child 😉
At the bottom of the falls it gets busier. A lot of restaurants, local kids jumping in the water, some sort of boat tour offered… and the obvious souvenir stalls.
When you climb back up, you can spot the lovely colony of barbary macaque monkeys that live near the falls. We treated them a healthy grain biscuit and they loved it!
After all that walking down and back up again, we were offered a very nice dinner. At the beginning of our tour, our guide gave us the option to dine with the waterfalls in sight – in the more touristy restaurants along the track – or to dine a little further away in a Kasba restaurant. We choose the last one, and didn’t regret it one bit! The food was excellent and the host superfriendly. You can also stay overnight there, certainly a good option if you are looking into accomodation in the area.
