    What to do in Amsterdam

A lovely tree in Vondelpark Amsterdam is a city with many sights. Annick has spent a couple of weeks there in total: some exploring on her own, others with work, tagging along 80 15 to 16 year old kids. We also took Febe to Amsterdam when she was only two, proving citytrips and (small) children go well. You can read all about that here! When you are visiting Amsterdam, what should you do? Amsterdam in a day Essential to see Amsterdam in a day is to walk around the canals, who are declared Unesco World Heritage. You can start from the Central Station (which is probably where you will arrive…

    Defence line of Amsterdam

To start of our summer holidays in 2012, we headed to Amsterdam for 4 days. It was a memorable trip for multiple reasons. First of all – we went couchsurfing. For the very first time. A friend of mine got us all enthousiastic about this way of travelling, and it has given us numerous travel memories so far! For those of you who’d like more info on couchsurfing – visit www.couchsurfing.org . If you’d like to find us there, here’s a direct link to our profile. Always welcome to discover rural Eksaarde, or – more likely to your interest – Gent 😉 Secondly, it was our first citytrip with Febe.…

After a quick check on Instagram and Twitter to see if the park was still worth it, we decided to take off to the north of the Netherlands the day after. For those who have never heared of Keukenhof a little introduction. In the town of…

    The surroundings of Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a popular destination, especially for those who focus on nightlife and shopping. Those of you who love a bit of culture, will also find more than enough to your liking. But did you know that you can also find peace & quiet just outside Amsterdam? Traditional Holland life is just around the corner… and worth a little detour if you ask us! Last time we visited the city we couchsurfed in Monnickendam, a little village along the coastline of the Gouwzee, and pretty close to well-known Marken, a pittoresque little village reachable by the small Zeedijk. At the time we were there, they had a sailing competion –…

Visiting Amsterdam with a two year old

The first reaction we got from nearly everybody when we told them we were going to visit Amsterdam with a two year old toddler was… “What? You must be joking! That is travel suïcide – you cannot go on a citytrip with a toddler…” Why not?  There is not a single reason why you should skip travelling when you get kids. And there is not a reason why you can’t visit a city with kids, even with young kids. Here are some basic tips we can give you on travelling to a city with a young kid, and I think they might apply to travelling in general with young kids.…
