    Snorkeling in the Dominican Republic

    As explained in our previous post, we stayed in Punta Cana during our trip. The focus of our stay was resting, and snorkeling. We both had some great snorkel experiences before, and were pleasantly surprised by what the Dominican Republic had to offer. We booked our snorkeling trips with Dressel Divers, a local dive shop located on the beach in Punta Cana (near the Iberostar hotel). We did our research before leaving and they are a responsible diving and snorkeling company, with attention for the environment and the stability of the coral reefs – something very important to us.     Staying in Punta Cana

    The Dominican Republic was an a-typical holiday for us. We had actually planned to go to Egypt that year. A group trip, a 3 weeks exploration with a travel agency known for adventurous travels. We booked a holiday in July, but in June we received news that we were the only ones who booked the holiday and the group tour couldn’t take place. They offered us the same trip, the same period, but with their Dutch partner organisation. Only: we had to pay €600 more. For the exact same trip. It was already a pricy trip, so we refused. So, a month before summer started we were left with no trip……

    Santo Domingo

    When we visited the Dominican Republic, we focussed mainly on beach life and snorkeling. However, we decided to take in some culture as well: we took a daytrip to the capital Santo Domingo. The drive there by bus took us about 2 hours and a half, so it’s quite a long trip to make. It is worth it though! When we arrived we first visited the area of Ciudad Colónial, the colonial area that was declared Unesco Worldheritage in 1990. The area is packed with historical buildings.
